The unexpected consequences of the stricter copyright law of Japan:
The stricter version of the copyright law that will be implemented on January 1, 2021, seeks to ban illegal downloading, sites such as Kissmanga, Kissanime, and Gogoanime will be taken down in accordance to the law. The revisioning of the law came as the country saw a rising number of piracy and leech websites that cost Billions of dollars worth of losses to publishers and companies as well and it is expected that many more sites will be taken down as a result of this implementation.
Now don’t get me wrong here. I fully support the stricter implementation of this policy because the companies that make anime, as well as manga publishers, needs all of the support that they can get pair that with the fact that they don’t get all of the money that they deserve. Piracy itself is a crime in the first place but thankfully not all hope is gone since many companies are working together to create several Youtube channels that offer free copyrighted anime, one of these is Muse Asia my personal favorite, but that’s another topic for another day, for now, we have to discuss the inevitable problem of this law now you might be thinking as to what exactly are the consequences? Isn’t it made for the benefit of the anime industry itself? Well in a way you are right but this consequence that I’m talking about is more than money and more than the companies, it is a social problem that is very prevalent in the western world especially in America and in European Countries, so what is it exactly? Well, it’s just the most idiotic and dumb ideology that sprung in modern society. Cancel culture.
Well, what exactly is Cancel culture? Well, it is the way of terminating anything that offends someone, more specifically they cancel anything that they don’t like or goes against their beliefs. Now many people consider this as an absolute bullshit ideology but it is very much prevalent in today’s society, it has done nothing but harm.
In technicality, the main idea of the Cancel culture is that anything that offends anyone has to be terminated because it will hurt someone else’s “Feelings” or it might offend some people, although it is in general opposition of Freedom of speech, the very thing that lets modern society strive they completely disregard it and chooses to stick to their own idiotic beliefs. We can see the lateral effects of this in “Uzaki Chan asobitai!” and anime about a girl named Uzaki that wants to hang out with her senpai, yes that is literally it, it’s just that. Now you might be asking yourselves as to why exactly are they canceling this laid back show? Well, it’s very simple, IT’S BECAUSE OF HER UNREALISTIC BODY PROPORTIONS. See the problem here? Yeah neither do I. Now you can say that to EVERY SINGLE ANIME IN EXISTENCE since there will be at least one character with big breasts or is too small for their age, but why Uzaki? Well, it’s worth noting the fact that the same people who are attacking Uzaki are the same people who attacked her when she is used as a poster girl for a Blood donation event. Yeah, people are attacking her because she encourages people to donate their blood for a good cause. As of now, people are still attacking her because of many reasons some of them being that she “Promotes” pedophilia by having such a childish body whilst being 19 years old well ever heard of Freedom of Expression? Well, it is very clear that they have never heard of that because they’re making a small inconvenience A GIANT PROBLEM! Many long time anime fans or just people that watch anime have been saying over and over and over again that, that is just how she is made, that is just her character design, but do they ever listen? No… They don’t, in fact, they don’t even care, they will do everything to push their non-sense narrative in the cost of rationality, they do not care about opinions or logic or Freedom of speech, they will do everything to make the smallest issues BIG! And I see some people on twitter nag about her unrealistic proportions and they try to remake her character design and I have no problem with that, in fact, do whatever you want about her design, we live in a free world do whatever you want, but the thing that ticks me the most is the fact that they act as if they made it “Better” well here’s a fact snowflake, you didn’t the sheer fact that they have the audacity to completely redo her design and call it “Better” is nothing but disrespect to the original author who spent YEARS drawing her but they simply don’t care as long as they can shove their narratives into everyone’s throat. Do some people make her black and transgender?
LIKE THAT’S SUPPOSED TO MAKE THINGS BETTER!
Look if you don’t like her then just don’t watch it, don’t go about nagging to everyone, and making bullshit assumptions about “Promoting Crime” because it doesn’t help in the least bit and it only makes you look like an idiot. I assure you that you not watching something that you don’t like fixes your problem of not liking it 100% of the time.
But then again they don’t care, all they care about is seeing what they don’t like to go down in flames, they will cheer and rejoice as it falls, they will kick it, they will trample it, and they will bury it down to the ground and spit on its grave.
That is Cancel Culture.
Now with the mass transition to registered platforms such as Crunchyroll, Funimation, and Netflix, it will be more open to the general public, and while it is not generally a bad thing that also means that it will be more open to these Cancel Culture supporters and one can only hope that things will go well, that things will miraculously be peaceful but as far as I know there will be no peace with these people because they don’t even consider it. It will be a long and drawn-out conflict between those who support Freedom of speech and expression and those who seek to eradicate it.
