Which girl will win in Kanojo okarishimasu?

Kanojo Okarishimasu or Rental Girlfriend in English is one the most popular harem show as of now, replacing the glory of its predecessors namely Quintessential Quintuplets and We never learn! It’s in the spotlight right now and is argued as one of the best shows of the summer of 2020 and there are very good reasons for that mainly it’s because of the bold depiction of the modern young man in the form of Kazuya Kinoshita and the struggles of change and development from being a spineless, wretched, cum stain of a character to a responsible, confident man. It’s amazing how this anime can touch so many people on a deep level, how they can relate to the struggles of our main character Kazuya Kinoshita and his struggles to find true love and well…. There’s a lot of women that are worthy of that love, in fact, there are 4 of them and before you know it, that’s where the problem starts.

You see Kanojo Okarishimasu is a part of the Harem genre and every now and then the people watching a certain show develop a strong attachment to one character and all will be good and peaceful if there’s only one heroine but the problem is that there’s always more than one. So in the anime community, people tend to fight over who is rightful of winning the harem and earning the title of Best Girl but there’s always a problem to that as there are a LOT of candidates for it and the viewers are always divided on the topic. Each of their individual choices is all about personal preference and very few actually consider the satisfaction of the plot and the Main Character.

And that’s where we go in.

We’re gonna try to find out who exactly will win in Kanojo Okarishimasu We’re not gonna find who’s Best Girl as that decision is all about the personal preferences of the viewers, we’re just trying to find as to who exactly will Kazuya end up with.

We have 4 candidates here.

1.) Ruka Sarashina

2.) Sumi Sakurasawa

3.) Mami Nanami

4.) Chizuru Ichinose.

Let’s go by each and every one of them.

1.)Ruka Sarashina-

Made her first appearance in episode 7, she is a robust and energetic girl- Yes she is a girl because she’s 16 years old and is technically not legal-.

Most people like her because of her appearance which is, short hair with a trademark ribbon-Which reminds me of Marika from Nisekoi- but some people like her because of her tenacity of not giving up on Kazuya even if he likes Chizuru and her unwavering love for him.

She has quite a backstory too. It starts out when she was a kid when it was revealed that she has a problem with her heart, where if she gets too excited or if she does a really tiring task, her heart may beat too fast and she might collapse from it because of palpitation. So as a result she strayed away from anything that might excite her or even make her happy as she is afraid of her illness. This lead to her being somewhat like a robot that doesn’t feel any emotions, this resulted in her being a rental girlfriend to feel emotions once again.

One day when she gets tangled up in Kazuya and Chizuru’s business during a double date with her and Kazuya’s best friend Shun Kirubayashi which resulted in a problematic situation because Ruka found out that Chizuru is indeed a rental girlfriend, later on, Kazuya pleaded to Ruka about not telling anyone that he is just renting Chizuru, this made Ruka fall in love with Kazuya because of his sincerity, he made her feel something that’s been missing for years. Love.

Because of this incident, Ruka begged Kazuya to date her even if it’s just a “trial” because she wants to feel that excitement once again. And of course, Kazuya agreed because of further persuasion from Chizuru.

Now that we know who Ruka is, it’s time to answer the question of will she wins?

Well.

No.

And there are very good reasons for this the first one being that Kazuya doesn’t really show affection to Ruka in the first place and that their relationship is too sudden that it has very little time to develop into real feelings for Ruka.

Also in episode 8, you can clearly see that Kazuya is tired of being around with Ruka because she is very possessive even as a “trial” girlfriend and she is not very trustworthy since she tried to tell some people about Kazuya’s secret in order for him to fall out of love for Chizuru.

And personally, I don’t think that this is a very good sign for a good relationship since being overtly clingy makes you outright annoying and hard to be with. Now, most people say that they like Ruka because she is hard-working but to me, that isn’t an appeal. Sure Ruka is openly confessing her love to Kazuya but then she steps on other people’s feelings and relationships with the people around them and as result, it hurts that very relationship and causes it to crumble because of her interference. Her presence around Kazuya is, in fact, making him uncomfortable since she is very insensitive and can cause trouble in a minute's notice, for example at episode 8 she went to Kazuya’s school even with knowing the fact that it will stir trouble into Kazuya’s daily life.

It doesn’t satisfy the plot since it mainly revolves around Chizuru and Kazuya nor is it very logical to let the two ends up together as there really is no good reason to do so.

Personally, I would like to see a better ending for Ruka where she doesn’t end up with Kazuya but with another person since her relationship with him won’t really do much good for both of them. Maybe she can end up with one of Kazuya’s best friends? Anyone but Kazuya will do.

2.)Sumi sakurasawa

She will make her first appearance in episode 10 as another Rental Girlfriend that Kazuya rented. She is a first-year college student and is a newcomer to the industry of Rental Girlfriends. She works at Chizuru's company which technically makes Chizuru her senpai. She is a shy and timid girl, so shy that she often uses hand signs and barely speaks in front of people.

Kazuya is Sumi’s target for practice dating as with Chizuru’s urging she goes on dates with Kazuya to improve her skills as a Rental Girlfriend. I think the reason why she became a Rental Girlfriend in the first place is that she wants to improve her social skills just like Chizuru who became one to improve her acting skills.

Sumi’s first dates were not a success since she can’t even show her feelings to her customers because of her shyness but with a couple of dates with Kazuya she seems to grow little by little, sure she is still shy about it but she is working hard to grow out of her comfort zone and become a better version of herself.

As time went on she developed feelings for Kazuya but unlike other members of the harem, she knows that she can’t win Kazuya over Mizuhara and that’s what I like most about her, she knows her boundaries. She tries not to overstep Kazuya’s relationship with Chizuru for the sake of her own desires, instead, she accepts it even if Kazuya won’t fall for her. She is a hard-working girl and is very considerate of the people around her.

While I was reading the manga with all the chaos between Ruka and Mami, Sumi just gave a breath of fresh air and I was really glad that her character was introduced. Every time that she has her moments I’m just really happy that we can get someone as wholesome as Sumi and I’m pretty sure that a lot of people feel that way too.

Sadly Sumi is a side character and we won’t see that much of her since the story revolves around Kazuya and Chizuru but even if she won’t win I only want one thing for her and that is happiness. Maybe not in this manga- Hopefully there’s a spin-off about her- and maybe not in the hands of Kazuya but that’s alright because she deserves someone even better.

3.)Mami Nanami

Behind the petite figure and her cute smile Mami is actually the secret antagonist of this show- As with everyone’s knowledge. It’s pretty obvious.

She is the Ex-Girlfriend of Kazuya, the person that led to the despair of our Kazuya who fell into a deep pit of sorrow and agony. She and Kazuya have been dating for a month up until she said that she’s no longer in love with him because she fell in love with someone else… WITH A SMILE ON HER FACE.

Now a lot of people hate her not because she broke up with Kazuya, I mean that’s fine, that thing happens in relationships but the thing that aggravates me the most is the way that she treats him after the break-up. It’s as if their relationship didn’t even happen at all. She gave Kazuya false hope that she is really in love with him, only for her to break up with him after a month.

But what really infuriates is that in episode 2, when he and Chizuru got invited on a drinking party because Kazuya’s friend saw them by accident and thought that they were dating for real and surprisingly Mami is there and by some mystery, Mami is jealous of Kazuya because he got a girlfriend now, like what? And then after that, she continued to bad mouth Kazuya in which Chizuru swooped in and saved Kazuya from further humiliation. I mean like yeah I get it Kazuya isn’t really the perfect boyfriend because he is very incompetent and tends to let his feelings make the decisions for himself which often leads to troublesome situations but you shouldn’t humiliate him in front of his friends for things that you did while you were together, that’s just flat out disrespectful and here’s the catch after a little while when Mami, Kazuya, and their friends were on a beach outing-Coincidentally Chizuru was there too. Mami out of jealousy kissed Kazuya out of nowhere thus giving him more false hope even though in her mind she already has a girlfriend. Later on, it was later revealed that Mami wants to break Kazuya and Chizuru’s relationship as said in her twitter account.

Kazuya on the other hand tries desperately to get him and Mami back together because of a slight glimmer of hope.

Mami as a character is the one that is supposed to make the intense scenarios, she is the one that will get in the way of Kazuya and Chizuru’s relationship and is determined to destroy it although I’m pretty sure that there has to be a real deep motive behind her actions I’m yet to discover it and whatever it may be, it has to be pretty damn good considering the things that she has done.

So you see the reason why a lot of people dislike Mami is not because she broke up with Kazuya- which is entirely acceptable considering the fact that Kazuya only wants sex and continuously fails to hide his “horniness”- it’s actually because of what she does after the break-up which is trying to ruin his ex-boyfriend’s current relationship with someone else which is just flat out wrong even if Kazuya and Chizuru’s relationship is that of a Rental Girlfriend and her client.

So will Mami win?

Will she and Kazuya be able to get back together?

Well, that is a big NO.

Why?

Here’s why.

4.) Chizuru Ichinose

The people’s champ as seen from all the polls. She is the one that captivated the fandom, one of the main focus of the show- the title is literally Rental Girlfriend for god’s sake!- and the Chizuru bandwagon is showing no signs of slowing down.

She is the first Rental Girlfriend that Kazuya paid for in order to cope with his break up with Mami. As a Rental Girlfriend, Chizuru is what you call the perfect woman, great figure, humble personality, good conversationalists and she really is a great person overall but once she goes back to her true self she’s what you call a tsundere since she’s very prideful and is known to keep her true feelings a secret but even with that she’s just another person who cares for the people around her and will never leave them even if it gives her all the advantages.

As I watched the show I realized that if Chizuru just said to her Grandma that she and Kazuya broke up everything would be as is, and she would get out of her troubles the easy way, but she didn’t. When Ruka showed up Chizuru can simply let go of Kazuya because, in technicality, he and Ruka are dating so that solves the problem of Kazuya trying to please his grandma by having a girlfriend, but she didn’t. Instead, she believed in Kazuya that maybe he’ll be better and try to tackle these problems himself, that’s what it seems to me at least.

People like Chizuru not because of her beauty, nor her body but rather it’s because of her tenacity, her belief that Kazuya will become a better person. She believes that a spineless, wretched, comer, scum bag person like Kazuya will become a better version of himself and even Kazuya himself is ready to change for his feelings for Chizuru.

So will she win?

Yes.

Why?

Well, the answer is simple really.

You can find it in the very first chapter.

Watching Rental Girlfriend I realized that it is not a show that primarily focuses on the harem, it is a show that focuses on the development of Kazuya and his relationship with Chizuru, and how he is ready to change for the woman that he loves and for the betterment of himself.
